For treatment at our clinic, the following labs are recommended to support your weight loss journey:
1. Complete Blood Count (CBC): Evaluates overall health and detects issues like anemia or infection, which can impact energy levels and weight management.
2. Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): Assesses kidney and liver function, both of which are crucial for processing medications and maintaining metabolic health during weight loss.
3. Lipid Panel: Measures cholesterol levels, including LDL, HDL, and triglycerides. Monitoring these helps manage cardiovascular risk, which can be affected by weight changes.
4. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH): Screens for thyroid disorders, which can significantly influence metabolism and weight gain or loss.
5. Hemoglobin A1C: Monitors long-term blood sugar control and screens for diabetes, conditions often linked to obesity and weight management.
6. Vitamin B12: Checks for deficiencies that can cause fatigue and slow metabolism, both of which can hinder weight loss efforts.
Optional:
7. Vitamin D Levels: Assesses for deficiencies that can affect energy, mood, and overall health, all of which are important for maintaining a healthy weight.
Lab Draw Options:
1. In-Office: We have a phlebotomist available to draw your labs during your visit.
2. LabCorp: If preferred, we can send an order to LabCorp, allowing you to have your labs drawn at one of their locations.
3. External Labs:
• You may bring labs ordered by your primary care provider (PCP). However, all six tests must be included, and the labs must have been collected within three months of your first visit.
• Ensure you have these labs on hand or accessible before your appointment with our provider.
These labs provide a comprehensive view of your health, allowing us to tailor your weight loss plan effectively, monitor your progress, and adjust treatments as needed.

HbA1c is a measure of your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It forms when glucose, or sugar, attaches to hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. Since red blood cells live for about 120 days, HbA1c provides a reliable picture of your long-term blood sugar control. A higher HbA1c percentage indicates higher average blood sugar levels, and a reading of 6.5% or more is typically used to diagnose diabetes.
Regular HbA1c tests are essential for managing diabetes, as they help reduce the risk of complications by showing how well your blood sugar is being controlled over time.
What is cholesterol and how can you improve your lipid panel?
Cholesterol is vital for building cells, producing hormones, and making vitamin D. Your body produces cholesterol, but it also comes from your diet. In your blood, cholesterol travels in particles called lipoproteins.
Your lipid panel measures several key components:
• Total Cholesterol: This is the sum of all cholesterol in your blood, including LDL, HDL, and VLDL. A healthy level is typically below 200 mg/dL.
• LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein): Known as “bad” cholesterol, LDL can lead to plaque buildup in your arteries, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. Aim for an LDL level below 100 mg/dL.
• HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein): Referred to as “good” cholesterol, HDL helps remove excess cholesterol from your bloodstream. Higher levels (60 mg/dL or above) are protective, while lower levels may increase heart disease risk.
• VLDL (Very Low-Density Lipoprotein): VLDL carries triglycerides in your blood and can contribute to plaque formation in your arteries. A healthy VLDL level is typically between 2 and 30 mg/dL.
• Triglycerides: A type of fat used for energy, high triglyceride levels can contribute to artery hardening and are associated with metabolic issues. A healthy level is below 150 mg/dL.
To improve your lipid profile:
• Reduce refined carbs and sugars.
• Choose whole foods like fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and nuts.
• Avoid trans and saturated fats.
• Include healthy fats from sources like fatty fish, nuts, and avocados.
• Exercise regularly.
• Limit alcohol consumption.
• Consider omega-3 supplements.
These lifestyle changes can lower LDL, VLDL, and triglycerides, raise HDL, and enhance heart health.

ItemThe duration of semaglutide use for weight loss depends on individual goals and how well the patient responds to treatment. Typically, it’s part of a long-term weight management strategy. While some patients may use semaglutide for several months, many continue for years to achieve and maintain their weight loss. The exact duration is tailored to each patient’s needs, progress, and overall health. Semaglutide is not a short-term fix; it should be integrated into a comprehensive approach that includes cognitive and behavioral changes.
For those with type 2 diabetes, semaglutide may be used indefinitely to manage blood sugar levels and support weight loss. The medication is continued as long as it remains effective and well-tolerated.
-
Yes, semaglutide is safe for non-diabetics, particularly when used for weight management under the guidance of a healthcare provider. Semaglutide was originally developed and approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, but it has also been approved for use in individuals who are overweight or obese, even if they do not have diabetes.
Clinical trials have shown that semaglutide is effective in helping non-diabetic individuals lose weight and improve other health markers. However, like any medication, it comes with potential side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal discomfort, especially when first starting the treatment.
It’s crucial for non-diabetic patients to use semaglutide under medical supervision to ensure it’s appropriate for their health condition and to monitor for any adverse effects.
Regular follow-ups with a healthcare provider are important to assess the effectiveness and safety of the treatment.
